DIY Sweater Pillows
11/24/2014
I am loving the cable knit sweater trend this year. I see so many blankets and throws and pillows in the sweater style. These pillows are very easy to make and add a nice touch to your room or home for the holidays. I purchased my sweaters from the thrift store but if you had any old sweaters that would work great! I got my sweaters for $4.00 each and then I used an old pillow and a pillow form from a spring pillow cover I have. These are so much cheaper to make than to buy from a store!
What you will need:
- Pillow form or an old pillow
- Old Sweaters
- Fabric Scissors
- Fabric glue or a needle and thread
The first thing you are going to do it turn your sweaters inside out, then cut off the sleeves along the seam line. Place the sweater over the pillow and measure out how much of the sweater you will need. This cream sweater I used had a deep V-neck so I ended up cutting it off right under the arm holes so I essentially didn't need to cut off the arms.
After You have cut off the arms and the neck it is time to bust out the hand sewing needle and thread or some fabric glue. For this one I decided to hand sew it. Sew the side of the sweater you must cut off, the neck line.
After you are finished sewing up the side, put your pillow into your new pillow case. To close the open side you can either stitch it, add buttons, or use fabric glue. Since I wasn't ever going to use my pillow form again I decided to just glue the ends of the sweater to the pillow. This will be the bottom of the pillow so it doesn't really matter how it looks.
This is how the ends that I glued down turned out looking. |
With the second sweater I got I finished it off a little bit different. Since it was going over a form that I use for other pillow covers also, I closed the open end with some buttons that I sewed on
